Question: | How can I cure my Ross River fever? It has lasted for weeks! |
Answer: | Unfortunately there in no cure for this condition. Ross River fever (also known as epidemic polyarthralgia) is not limited to the Ross Rivet in Townsville, but is a world-wide disease of tropical areas that is spread by mosquitoes. Once the condition is established, only medications to relieve the joint and muscular pains, fever and tiredness can be given.
The only treatment is symptomatic—medications to ease the aches and pains and remove the fever. Aspirin is the mainstay of treatment, but if this is insufficient, more potent anti-inflammatory medication or even steroids may be prescribed by your doctor to keep you comfortable for the 6 to 12 weeks the disease will last
