Question: | Recently, I have tested HIV positive. I am 28 year old holding a senior position in the office. I fear losing my job if someone gets to know about my situation. What are my rights regarding this? Is it contagious to other people in the office due to me? Any help will be appreciated. |
Answer: | A person can not be discriminated on the basis of disabilities, including people tested HIV positive or diagnosed with AIDS. There are certain laws which prevent this sort of discrimination. If someone practices this discrimination to employees on the basis of having HIV/AIDS, it is completely illegal. Neither can you be discriminated in getting rented house, nor any sort of medical facilities or other things. Even your doctor is not eligible to reveal your HIV status.
HIV can only be spread by having unprotected sex with HIV infected person, or by sharing needles or other equipments of a person with HIV positive or by HIV infected mother to their babies. It can not be spread by touching, casual contact, food, and clothing. So try to live your life as normal as you were leading previously. |
