Question: | What are the symptoms of HIV and AIDS? How long does it take to appear? |
Answer: | The symptoms of HIV infection are always not very significant to completely rely on for diagnosing the HIV infection. Some people don' t get any symptoms at all and some may get mild symptoms. Some people get flu-like illness or develop a rash or swollen lymph nodes mostly within 3 to 6 weeks of infection. But all these symptoms disappear after sometime. After the initial infection, the person is generally devoid of any symptoms for years appearing healthy but containing the HIV. So an HIV test is the only way to know about the HIV infection in people.
HIV infections slowly progresses and causes AIDS. In AIDS, the immune system becomes very weak and results in life threatening infections such as certain type of cancer, tuberculosis. These secondary infections produce variety of symptoms, including severe ones. But these symptoms do not indicate the existence of HIV infection or AIDS. SO you will require a HIV test to confirm the infection. |
