Question: | Recently, my doctor told me that I am allergic to wheat. Is there any treatment for the symptoms of wheat allergy? I love having pasta and baked food. Should I stop having such food? I can' t imagine my life without pasta. |
Answer: | Wheat allergy is one of the most common allergies occurring in children and adults also. When a person having wheat allergy consumes it in any form, the immune system of the body considers the proteins present in wheat as invaders. Then, the body' s immune system responds by developing specific antibodies to fight the wheat protein. These antibodies produce various chemicals, which produce large variety of symptoms including difficulty in breathing and nausea.
The best way to treat the wheat allergy is to avoid the wheat. Medications are available for allergic reactions, if you accidentally have exposure to wheat. Always carry the necessary medication with you at all the times.
You can try wheat-free products. Whole food market is a good source for wheat-free products. They have large variety of wheat-free products like wheat free bread, pastries and so on. Wheat free pasta is also available (made from other grains) in the market and offers a good substitute for wheat pasta. |
