Question: | I am taking antibiotics for my urinary infection. Is it ok if I take painkillers with antibiotics? Can it cause some adverse effect on my health? |
Answer: | Your concern is appreciated. It' s worth checking the possible interactions between the treatments before going for it.
Antibiotics help in clearing the infection, but they do not provide pain relief occurring due to that infection. So, people generally want to take some painkillers to relieve the pain. Usually antibiotics and painkillers taken in appropriate doses (provided by manufacturer) are fine as they are completely different medications. Paracetamol is one of the safest painkilling medications, which rarely causes any side effects. It is considered safe with antibiotics also. But, isoniazid (antibiotic used to treat tuberculosis) taken with paracetamol may increase the risk of liver damage. So, there is a possibility of interference of painkillers with antibiotic.
So, it' s better to consult your doctor before taking any painkiller if you are taking any antibiotics. Doctor knows your medical history and the medication you take and thus will be able to tell you whether you should take the painkiller with particular antibiotic or not. Your health is of utmost concern and you should never take a risk with it. |
