Question: | When I go on holiday I feel exhausted and often get sick. Why? |
Answer: | You were probably adrenally exhausted before you went. When the adrenal glands are on their last legs, most people can keep going only by staying hyped up - for example, by working long hours, or keeping up a regular supply of stimulants such as tea, coffee, caffeinated drinks or cigarettes. Adrenal hormones also suppress infections and pain. But when the pressure is off and you get on that plane for your week' s break, your adrenal glands go into retirement and your true state - utterly knackered - emerges. You can get headaches, nausea, body aches and flu-like symptoms, and feel chronically tired.
My advice is to eat very well, sleep long, do some mild exercise, and take 3g of vitamin C and a high dose B complex every day, plus some rhodiola, a herb that breathes life into flagging adrenal glands. Meanwhile, try and get some balance into your life so you' re not living on the edge of exhaustion. |
