Question: | My boyfriend has Christmas disease. Can you tell me more about it? |
Answer: | Christmas disease is an inherited disorder where one of the factors essential for the clotting of blood is lacking. As a result they bleed more easily than normal people, and may develop serious bleeding into joints that can cause arthritis. The bleeding can be controlled by regular injections of the missing factor, which is extracted from blood donations.
If you were to marry and have children, your daughters would be carriers of the disease, but your sons would be free of it. |
