Question: | I have a hypothyroid condition caused by an autoimmune reaction. What can I do? |
Answer: | Some people produce ' anti-thyroid antibodies' which destroy thyroid tissue. This can be due to a ' cross-reaction' in which your body reacts to a food and mistakenly attacks the thyroid. Gluten grains such as wheat, rye, oats and barley are strongly associated with many autoimmune disorders, so you could try eliminating these from your diet and see how you feel. Even better is to test yourself for food intolerance. It also would be wise to consult a nutritional therapist to investigate what is causing your immune system to overreact in this way. |
