Question: | My daughter has developed urticaria. What could be causing this? |
Answer: | Urticaria - or hives - is almost certainly an allergic reaction. I' d therefore suggest your daughter eliminates suspect foods, the most common being wheat, gluten (the protein found in wheat and also barley, rye and to a lesser extent oats), dairy foods, eggs, citrus fruits, tea, coffee, chocolate and soya. Start with one food group at a time, eliminate completely for 10 days, then reintroduce and monitor the results. If is OK, repeat the process with the next food group. Chemicals, pharmaceutical drugs or household products (washing powder, detergents and so on) can also cause an allergic reaction, so think if there' s something in these groups that may be aggravating her too. |
