Question: | What do you recommend to prevent water retention? |
Answer: | Food allergies or intolerances, often to wheat and dairy foods, are a common cause of water retention. Other foods can also be involved; check out those you eat a lot of. Water retention can also be a symptom of essential fatty acid deficiency (see also ' I get thirsty and I pee a lot' , page 299). Ensure a high intake of seeds and their oils and oily fish. Although it seems counter-intuitive, water retention can also mean you' re not drinking enough water, and are forcing your body to store what it' s got. Be sure you take in 1.5 litres of pure water a day and eat water-rich foods like fruit and vegetables. Supplements worth looking into include fish oil or flax seed oil, vitamin B6, biotin, zinc and magnesium. |
