Question: | What' s your view on milk thistle? |
Answer: | If you are a bit of a party animal, or become one around Christmas time, you' ll be doing your liver a huge favor by getting hold of some milk thistle. This herb contains silymarin, one of the most powerful liver-protective substances known, which keeps toxins and oxidants - the reactive, destructive molecules also known as free radicals - at bay. Research has shown that silymarin is highly effective at protecting your liver against all sorts of poisons, from alcohol to toadstools, as well as pollution. It also encourages the growth of new liver cells to replace the old and damaged ones.
Be aware that taking milk thistle isn' t a licence to abuse your liver, but you will certainly be better off for having some around during the party season. When you buy it, check that it contains at least 80 per cent silymarin. |
