Question: | Isn' t it dangerous to take large amounts of vitamin C? |
Answer: | Countless studies have demonstrated the positive effects of taking vitamin C. However, one research trial at the University of Leicester caught the headlines by stating that vitamin C could have a pro-cancer effect. After much criticism of their conclusions, the researchers retracted their statement and said that vitamin C had a profoundly protective effect. Another myth is that large doses of vitamin C can cause kidney stones. True, some studies have shown that massive doses of vitamin C injected into the bloodstream can increase the risk, but supplementation has not been shown to do this. If you do take excess vitamin C, the only likely reaction is that you' d get loose bowels - and for most people this only happens if they take more than 5g a day. |
