Question:I' ve read that glucosamine prevents and repairs joint damage. What' s your view?
Answer:Glucosamine sulphate (GS) is an essential part of the building material for joints, and the cellular ' glue' that holds the entire body together - although joint carti-lage contains the highest concentration of GS. GS appears to stop or reverse joint degeneration by pro-viding the body with the materials needed to build and repair damaged cartilage - a process recently proved by a research team in Belgium. (Scientists had originally thought GS just helped reduce the pain of arthritis.) So if you do have any joint problems from injury or arthritis, glucosamine could well help you rebuild the damage. Glucosamine hydrocholoride is more bio-available than glucosamine sulphate, so look for that form. The usual dosage of GS is 500mg, three times daily.
