Question:My nose looks as though it should belong on a moose rather than a human. Can it be improved by plastic surgery?
Answer:You should be discussing with your general practitioner the pros and cons of plastic surgery to correct this problem. Your GP can refer you to a plastic or ear, nose and throat surgeon, and he or she will assess your face, and its problems, before explaining to you what can and cannot be done to improve your appearance. Prominent noses with a bulb at the end, or a hump on the bridge, can be corrected by surgery that leaves no scar on the outside of your face. The entire operation is done under general anaesthetic, on the inside of the nose, with the surgeon operating through the nostrils. Noses that are too small can also be enlarged in the same way. You will wake up with a plaster on your nose, and some bandaging around your face, but this is soon removed, and after the post-operative swelling subsides, a new-nosed you will emerge.
