Question: | What is a bland diet, and when is it used? |
Answer: | A bland diet consists of vegetables cooked without any sauces or spices, fish, chicken breast (no skin), most forms of cereal (eg. bread, cornflakes), and fruit taken in moderation. Fatty, fried and dairy foods should be avoided.
This sort of diet is used to settle the bowel in many conditions, but particularly in chronic diarrhoea.
