Question: | My eyes are constantly watering. What can be done about this? |
Answer: | Watery eyes may be due to allergies, a blocked tear duct, contact lenses or other foreign bodies in the eye, infections, an out-turned lower eyelid in older people and numerous other reasons. As with most medical problems, correct diagnosis is essential before treatment is commenced.
The most common cause is allergy, and if you have hay fever or asthma in association with your watery eyes, the chance of the cause being an allergy is much higher. Allergic conjunctivitis is treated with simple anti-inflammatory eye drops that are available from chemists, and sometimes with antihistamine tablets. More potent medications are available on prescription if these simple remedies do not work. |
