Question: | When I attend aerobic classes I am embarrassed by an involuntary passing of urine when doing more strenuous exercises. I have children, and I believe this condition is caused by weakening of the pelvic floor muscles during childbirth. I plan to have another child, but are there any exercises that will help me, or is surgery the only answer? |
Answer: | Surgery is the only permanent answer for this type of stress incontinence, but this should be delayed until after you have completed your family, as a further pregnancy will destroy all the surgeon' s work.
Physiotherapists can benefit you in the interim by teaching pelvic floor exercises that will strengthen the muscles around the bladder. It may be possible for these exercises to completely control the problem for you, but they must be continued long term.
