Question: | Why do elderly people develop red palms? |
Answer: | There are several dozen causes for this complaint, varying from liver disease and an overactive thyroid to blood vessel overdilation and the side effects of certain drugs.
The most likely explanation is age, because the skin is thinner in older people and this allows the blood normally circulating there to show through more easily, giving a fiery red colour to the palms.
