Question: | What are growing pains? |
Answer: | Many doctors do not believe that growing pains occur, and they receive scanty attention in medical textbooks. I do believe they occur and they are probably due to inflammation of the soft growing areas at the ends of the long bones in the arms and legs. Children can be extremely active and this places excessive force on the growing areas, leading to pain in the bones. Rest, heat and paracetamol or aspirin are the only necessary treatments. |
