Question: | I am writing about a problem of mine that has been apparent for some time. Around the base of my penis and on my scrotum there are a number of small pimple-like spots or lumps. A hair appears to grow from each lump. I am sure it is not an STD, but my girlfriend and I have agreed to have sex in the near future, and I fear she may notice these lumps. I am 15, and have had the problem for two years. Your help would be greatly appreciated. |
Answer: | Relax! You do not have anything to be concerned about. Two years ago, you developed from a boy into a man, and at that time your scrotum and penis enlarged. The scrotum is normally smooth in boys, but in men, a large number of sebaceous (oil) glands and sweat glands develop in the skin of the scrotum to give it a ' plucked chicken' appearance.
You are describing a completely notmal scrotum, and if you get a chance, take a sidelong look at other young men in a changing room, and you will see that they will have the same small lumps.
If you do become sexually active, ensure that you use adequate contraception (eg. a condom). I am sure you have no desire to become a father at 15!
