Question:I' ve had a frozen shoulder for months and tried everything suggested by my doctor. What do I do now?
Answer:This is a very difficult problem, and the most important factor in successful treatment is time. Patients with a frozen shoulder are unable to move the joint freely, and sometimes even the slightest movement causes severe pain. They cannot brush their own hair or even clean their teeth in severe cases. The recognised therapies for this distressing condition are exercises, heat, physiotherapy, anti-inflammatory drugs, steroid injections into the shoulder, manipulation (sometimes under anaesthetic) and occasionally cortisone tablets. If you are not improving after some months of treatment, you should be seeing an orthopaedic specialist for his opinion.
