Question:What can I do for morning sickness? I' m nine weeks pregnant, can' t keep anything down and i' m losing weight. I' m worried it might affect the baby.
Answer:Debendox was the medication used for over 20 years to very effectively control morning sickness in women around the world until 1985. Some very flimsy evidence led to some suits in the United States that cost the manufacturer a great deal of money. Not for any medical reason, but because they could not afford to defend the suits bought by women who had abnormal babies, the manufacturer stopped making Debendox. There is now NO medication available specifically for morning sickness. For women afflicted by the problem, a diet of dry food, small amounts taken frequently rather than three meals a day, is probably the best solution. Some women get relief from vitamin B6 capsules 200 mg per day (but NO more!). Antihistamine such as Phenergan can also be used in severe cases, but they cause significant drowsiness and other annoying side effects. A mixture called ' Emetrol' helps women with mild to moderate morning sickness. Merbentyl is another drug that has been used successfully in some women. If the problem cannot be controlled, and the vomiting persists to the point where the woman is losing weight and becoming dehydrated, hospitalisation is necessary to give inttavenous feeding and bed rest. You should keep in regular, contact with your doctor so that the condition of yourself and the babv ckn be closely monitored.
