Question: | Would you please explain Noonan syndrome to me? We have a lovely little woman who has just started at the office as a cleaner who has this problem. |
Answer: | Noonan Syndrome is an uncommon developmental abnormality with widespread effects.
It is a congenital (present from birth) condition that occurs in both sexes and without any chromosomal defects.
Patients are short in stature, have a wide neck, broad chest, abnormal heart valves, slanted eyes, low-set ears, depressed bridge of the nose, broad tip of the nose and some mental retardation.
There is no cure, but surgical correction of the heart problems is possible and plastic surgery corrects cosmetic deformities. Life expectancy is normal.
