Question: | What vaccinations do I need for a trip to South East Asia? |
Answer: | No vaccinations are needed for Hong Kong and Singapore. For travel in other countries in the area you should have a typhoid vaccination (which is now available in tablet form) and hepatitis A vaccination 4 weeks before your departure. If you are planning to travel away from the major cities in Asia, a cholera vaccine is also advisable, and it is essential to take tablets to prevent malaria (start 2 weeks before departure). Also make sure your tetanus shots and polio vaccination are up to date.
Hepatitis B protection is advisable, but not essential. If desired, it can be combined with the vaccine against hepatitis A in the one injection.
It is a good idea to ask your doctor for some diarrhoea and vomiting tablets to take with you—just in case.
