Causes of Incontinence of Urine
Affects women far more than men. Alcohol and caffeine increase the production of urine, a sudden severe fright or shock, and extreme fear, may cause loss of bladder control. Other causes include infections of the bladder or kidney, childbirth damage to the muscles that control the release of urine, the lack of oestrogen at menopause, obesity, medications (eg. diuretics, tranquillizers), surgery to the pelvis (eg. hysterectomy), stroke, loss of consciousness, epileptic fit, damage to the brain (eg. cerebral palsy, tumor, Parkinson' s disease), dementia, Alzheimer disease, tumors or stones in the bladder, damage to the nerve supply to the bladder from pelvic injury, multiple sclerosis, paraplegia, diabetes, and rarely a fistula (abnormal opening) between the bladder and vagina.
