Treatment for Sting, Bee or Wasp • remove bee sting by scraping it sideways with fingernail or side of a knife. Do not pull or squeeze the sac of venom attached to the sting.
• wipe affected area clean and apply a block of ice wrapped in damp material.
• in moderately severe cases antihistamine tablets or injections are given, and steroid creams applied.
• if the victim has an allergic reaction, apply pressure immobilization (firmly wrapped bandage) and obtain urgent medical attention. If breathing or pulse stops, give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
• adrenaline and steroid injections for very severe reactions (anaphylaxis).

Complications of Sting, Bee or Wasp of its treatment A few people are allergic to stings, and their reaction may be worse with severe pain, swelling and irritation, puffy eyelids and wheezy breathing. If the reaction is extreme (anaphylaxis), it can affect breathing and the heart. It is not unknown for bees and wasps to crawl into an open can of drink, and then sting the victim in the mouth and throat which can be very serious as the airway may swell up and block. |
Likely Outcome of Sting, Bee or Wasp Recovery is usually swift and uneventful. Severe allergy reactions respond well once appropriate treatment given. Massive stings from multiple insects may rarely be fatal. |
