Causes of Transverse Myelitis Autoimmune condition often associated with a recent viral (eg. influenza, measles, mumps) or bacterial (eg. Mycoplasma) infection, or very rarely a vaccination. |
Symptoms of Transverse Myelitis Neck or back pain, followed by altered sensations (eg. pins and needles, loss of sense of touch) and muscle weakness in the body below the area of pain. |
Tests for Transverse Myelitis Reflexes are abnormal. Diagnosed by an MRZ scan. |
Treatment for Transverse Myelitis Steroid injections into the spinal cord may be tried, but are often ineffective.

Complications of Transverse Myelitis of its treatment May progress to complete paraplegia or quadriplegia. |
Likely Outcome of Transverse Myelitis May be some recovery, but effects usually permanent. |
